Author. Dungeon Master. Adventurer
Oliver Hulme is the author
of several novels including
Six Weeks of Hell, Elite Dangerous
Role Playing Game as well as the
Legendary Kingdoms Gamebook series.
Brought up on a diet of Dungeons
and Dragons and the works of authors
such as Ian Livingstone, Steve Jackson,
Dave Morris and Jamie Thompson,
it is no surprise that Oliver is now a
full-time writer and game designer.
In creating the Legendary Kingdoms
series of gamebooks Oliver mentioned
in a recent interview that: “the aim of
Legendary Kingdoms is ultimately to
replicate the feel of a full D&D campaign,
but not one where you are led by the
nose. It’s one where you can start where
you wish, go where you wish, and take
on adventures in your own sweet time”.
What was you inspiration for your writings: - Well, it was several things, really. I’ve been the designated Dungeon Master (DM) in my
D&D games for a long time. I was nine when I ran my first game, and it’s been, ahem, 3D12
years since I first started.
People seem to love my D&D campaigns despite the fact that they run for years and years (3 years for a campaign would be a short one). But then I encounter some people who say they’ve played an RPG once, and then never went back because their
DM was boring. It sounds big headed, but I wanted to share one of my campaigns with the world.
–
A game where you start small but end up as the most powerful people in
the world, but not in a forced or sudden way, and never with the hand of the pushy DM forcing you into things
I think the magical moment in a long campaign is when you return to your starting place, no longer a common farmer, but the King’s champion, and those who doubted or ignored you suddenly hang on your every word.
It’s when you look back and think, “remember when a pack of these sand lizards almost wiped us out, and now we can
basically defeat them in a single round?” Without time and effort on the player’s part, these feelings are pretty hollow.

Elite Dangerous RPG
The Elite Dangerous Role-Playing Game is an officially licensed Elite: Dangerous product. The game is a skill-based system using a D10 and a skill bonus to exceed difficulty numbers.
Advancement by your characters is up through the same levels that appear in the computer game. You begin as 'Harmless' and can make your way all the way up to 'Deadly' and then 'Elite.'. For each level your skill base has a ceiling, which is steadily increased as you gain experience. Character creation begins with you choosing from a number of 'backgrounds,' which come with a unique number of skill enhancements to enable your character to be as unique a person as you are.
Each character begins with their own spaceship, just like in the computer game. Not only can characters improve these ships with upgrades to the weapons and internal systems, but, with the right amount of money, players can trade in their ships for larger and more powerful models. Players can also engage in vehicle combat and purchase larger and better ground vehicles as they advance in wealth
GM's can create their own missions for their players, covering areas such as military missions, espionage, exploration as well as trading, or they can use our random mission generator to create plot hooks and twists.
